Arthur G. Richards, M.A., ARM
Art Richards started in the insurance industry in 1982, when he joined Sedgwick, a multi-national insurance brokerage as a commercial lines producer. While at Sedgwick, Richards worked in the Public Entity and Medical Professional Liability Department. Art handled the insurance and risk management needs of large business, cities, counties and school districts as well as placing medical professional liability insurance for many physicians and medical clinics.
After earning an Associates in Risk Management (ARM) designation, he taught Risk Management classes for the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS). Art served on the Boards of the Independent Insurance Agents of Portland and Oregon, as well as serving as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Portland.
In 1992, Art joined American Benefits, Inc., a medium size independent agency located in Portland, Oregon. He is extensively involved in the medical professional liability insurance field, and represents The Doctor’s Company (TDC) and Medical Protective (MedPro); two of the largest medical malpractice insurers in the U.S. Art specializes in the non-standard medical malpractice arena. In 2001, he was named Director of ABI’s Professional Liability Division.
From 2004 to 2009, Art served as the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery’s (ASMBS) medical malpractice insurance Agent of Record. Along with Regi Schindler, Art co-founded BLIS, Inc. (www.bliscompany.com). He also co-founded the BLIS Foundation (www.blisfoundation.org) where he serves as Executive Director.
